Long recognized as the most popular golf course on the Island, this course offers six par 3's, six par 4's and six par 5's. Broad fairways and manicured greens are accented by numerous gardens, lakes and ponds. It is sure to reward the senses with the beauty of Prince Edward Island.
Brudenell River was a result of the vision of Robbie Robinson, a Canadian architect who served as Stanley Thompson’s chief designer for years. For Robinson it was a return to Prince Edward Island, where he had served as construction chief for Green Gables Golf Club, which was at one time considered one of Thompson’s finer courses in its day.
Located on the banks of the eponymous river for which it is named, the golfer is faced with a balanced test that works over undulating ground before playing alongside the river at a few points, weaving along its edge before moving back inland. The beauty of the land served as a canvas for Robinson to lay out his many doglegs and wild greens, while providing a unique challenge that still tests the golfer today. Although the course is overshadowed these days by its newer and bigger sister course – Dundarave – the original charm of Brudenell River has been a catalyst for the emergence of PEI as a major golf destination.
Brudenell River had carried a reputation as one of PEI’s finest courses for many years, but the spotlight was shone back on the venerable course with the 2000 addition of Dundarave. Although it seems like it could be left in the shadow of its new sister, golfers should not miss the second end of this 36-hole tandem. Combining the interesting terrain and setting, with Robinson’s panache for smart and subtle challenges that often only reveal themselves after multiple games, an enjoyable round of golf at Brudenell is assured.
